What is FX Europe?
FX Europe is a currency converter app for iOS and Android that uses official exchange rates from the European Central Bank (ECB). It supports 30+ currencies and is available in 36 languages.
Is FX Europe free?
Yes. The core app — currency conversion, calculator, offline mode, 36 languages — is completely free. Premium features (home screen widgets and ad removal) are available as a one-time purchase.
How much does premium cost?
Premium is a one-time purchase — no subscription. The exact price varies by region but is comparable to a cup of coffee. You pay once and keep it forever, including future updates.
About Exchange Rates
Where do FX Europe's exchange rates come from?
All rates come from the European Central Bank (ECB). These are the official reference rates published daily around 4:00 p.m. CET. They're the same rates used by banks and financial institutions across Europe.
How often are rates updated?
The ECB publishes new rates every business day. FX Europe fetches them as soon as they're available. On weekends and holidays, the most recent business day rates are shown.
Can I convert between non-EUR currencies (e.g., USD to GBP)?
Yes. FX Europe supports any-to-any conversion. For pairs that don't include EUR, the app calculates through EUR using official ECB rates for both currencies. This is the standard method used by financial institutions.
Are these rates the same as what I'll get at a bureau de change?
ECB rates are reference rates — they reflect the midpoint of currency markets. Bureau de change, banks, and ATMs apply their own margins on top. ECB rates give you the benchmark to know whether the rate you're being offered is fair.
About the App
Does FX Europe work offline?
Yes. The app caches the most recent exchange rates on your device. When you're offline, it uses the last fetched rates and shows you when they were last updated.
What currencies are supported?
FX Europe supports all currencies tracked by the ECB — 30+ currencies including EUR, USD, GBP, CHF, PLN, CZK, HUF, RON, SEK, DKK, NOK, JPY, CNY, AUD, CAD, and more.
What languages are supported?
36 languages including all 24 official EU languages: Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, and Swedish — plus additional languages.
Do I need to create an account?
No. FX Europe has no accounts, no sign-up, no login. Open it and use it.
What about my privacy?
FX Europe collects minimal data. No user accounts. No tracking across apps. Location is only used (with your permission) to suggest a default currency pair — it's never stored or shared.
About Widgets
How do I set up a widget?
On iOS, long-press your home screen, tap the "+" button, search for FX Europe, and choose a widget size. On Android, long-press the home screen, select Widgets, and find FX Europe. Widgets are a premium feature.
Can I choose which currency pairs appear on the widget?
Yes. Widgets show the currency pairs you configure. Tap a widget to jump into the app's calculator with that pair already loaded.
